Shop Woman In Gold - Diamond Painting Artwork Kit today. ‘Woman In Gold’ by Austrian painter Gustav Klimt dazzles the eye and captivates the mind. Its original was brought to life between 1903 and 1907 and was a portrait commissioned by Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer of his wife, Adele. Klimt used a variety of paints and other materials—including oils, gouache, silver and gold—to bring a true opulence to the piece. In 2015 a film—also titled ‘Woman In Gold’—was released, detailing the story of how the painting was returned to the original family’s possession, after being stolen by the Nazis in 1938. After its return in 2006, the painting was purchased for $135 million by Ronald Lauder. At the time this made it the most expensive painting ever sold.
